General Manager (September 2025)

Barton Kids Club is a not-for-profit organisation, run by a committee of parent volunteers.  We have been providing Breakfast and After School Clubs during term time for 30 years.  We also run a Holiday Club during the first week of the Easter Holidays and the first four weeks of the Summer Holidays.


Based in Barton Le Clay, Bedfordshire, the Club offers opportunities for children to play, learn, socialise and be creative.  We provide a safe, secure and relaxed environment, offering a range of activities to reflect the interests of the children in our care.


If you are a forward thinking, proactive, self-starter with strong leadership skills, experience in managing teams, operations, compliance, and are passionate about supporting children and families through providing high quality childcare, we would love to hear from you.

 

We are offering an exciting opportunity to join our team in September 2025. The role involves:

  • Responsibility for the day-to-day running of the Club, reporting to the management committee

  • Recruiting, retaining and managing staff employed at the Club

  • All finance and administration tasks, including payroll, book-keeping and general administration

  • Ensuring compliance with statutory requirements for Health and Safety, Safeguarding, etc.

  • Liaising with external stakeholders and agencies – Ofsted, Local Authority, Schools, etc.

 

You’ll need:

  • Proven leadership skills, ideally in a childcare environment

  • Experience of general business management

  • Experience of setting budgets and managing financial targets

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage with parents and develop external stakeholder relationships

  • An interest and passion for childcare 

  • Experience in using MS office products, bookkeeping systems and procedures 

Hours:  20 hours per week (4 hours per day) term time only.  You are expected to be on-site during the after school club operating hours of 3pm to 6pm.  The other hour of daily administration time can be flexible, and/or worked from home, allowing you to manage the workload around other commitments. 
You will be expected to work 10-15 hours per week administration time during holiday club, which will be paid as overtime in addition to your salary.


Salary:  Up to £20,515 dependent on skills and experience

This position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and is subject to receipt of a satisfactory enhanced DBS disclosure for a regulated activity and reference checks.  You must disclose all criminal convictions, cautions, court orders, reprimands, final warnings or pending cases that would not be filtered in line with current guidance.
